Epes Transport System Renews Commitment to Environmental Leadership Through EPA SmartWay® Partnership

Epes Transport System, LLC is pleased to announce the renewal of our participation in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay® Transport Partnership. This collaboration between the EPA and industry provides a framework for assessing and improving the environmental and energy efficiency of goods movement supply chains across America.

As a SmartWay® Transport Partner, Epes contributes to the program's environmental achievements, including savings of 397 million barrels of oil and 170 million metric tons of CO2 – equivalent to the annual electricity use in 26 million homes. Our participation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to environmental leadership and corporate responsibility in the transportation industry.

The SmartWay® Transport Partnership, developed jointly in early 2003 by the EPA and Charter Partners, celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2014. Today, the partnership includes nearly 4,000 participants, including shippers, logistics companies, and multimodal carriers who rely on SmartWay® tools to track and reduce emissions and fuel use from goods movement.

Epes started business in 1931 in Blackstone, Virginia. Originally known as "The Transport Company" it began as a family-owned business and continued that way for over 55 years. Epes Transport was purchased in September 1987 by Epes Carriers, Inc. in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 2018 Penske Logistics, Reading Pa. acquired Epes Transport System, LLC.

Today, we're proud to be one of the largest private trucking companies in the Southeast, combining our rich history with forward-thinking environmental practices. For more information about Epes Transport System, LLC, visit www.epestransport.com or call 336-668-3358.
